Weekend event celebrates culture, community groups

This past weekend, the organizers behind Virden's Community Expo and Virden's Culture Days decided to put them both under the same roof - the roof of Tundra Oil & Gas Place - to create a kind of synergy.

Past events have been vulnerable to venue limitations. Culture Days was previously held at the CPR Historic Centre where outdoor vendors and performers were at the mercy of wind and rain and indoor events were cramped and short on elbow room.

On Saturday, Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the banquet hall at TOGP was the site of an artisans market, dance demonstrations, and a fashion show staged by the Costume Closet. All were coordinated by Arts Mosaic.

Virden's Boost Committee hosted the Community Expo in the same room, featuring a dozen Virden-area non profit groups.

As an aside, the Virden Boost Committee is also planning for the future with a brainstorming session Thursday evening, Sept. 3, 7 p.m. at the Legion Club Room. It's open to individuals and organizations that want to learn more about grant opportunities for projects that celebrate Manitoba's 150th.
