In the early afternoon of Wednesday, Aug. 23, Westman RCMP officers conducted a traffic stop in the Town of Virden after witnessing the driver of this vehicle breaching the conditions of his Undertaking.

Officers arrested the driver of the pickup truck and observed numerous drug paraphernalia items in his vehicle. The pickup truck was towed back to the RCMP Detachment where a search warrant was prepared to further search the vehicle.

In the afternoon of Thursday, Aug. 24, officers were granted a search warrant under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to search the pickup truck. During the search, officers located more than 75 grams of methamphetamine, 77 grams of cocaine, 27 grams of marijuhuana, 12 grams of “shatter”, various items of drug paraphernalia, and a small quantity of Canadian currency.

31-year-old Cory Alexander Burke, of Virden, has been charged with four counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, two counts of Failing to Comply with an Undertaking, and one count of Possession of Proceeds of Crime. He was remanded in custody until his court appearance on Aug. 28.

Burke was on conditions after having been previously arrested on Aug. 9 after Westman RCMP officers executed a search warrant at his residence in Virden; where they located methamphetamine, cocaine, marihuana, and a firearm.

“This is our third significant seizure in the past 30 days” said Cpl. Aaron Bailey, Shift Supervisor for the Westman RCMP Detachment. “We will continue to investigate and hold those responsible who traffic illicit drugs in our communities and we continue to request that anyone with information to please contact the Virden RCMP Detachment.”

Westman RCMP continue to investigate.
