Elkhorn’s Brett Orr is excited to see what the Bentley University men’s hockey team can do in his final season.

Last winter, the NCAA Division I team posted a 15-9-4 regular season record. In the second half of the season, the Falcons were flying with a 12-game unbeaten streak.

As the Atlantic Hockey Association’s second seed, the Waltham, Mass.-based school team fell in a hard-fought first round playoff series to Robert Morris University.

“I think what I’m most looking forward to going into this season is chasing down that Atlantic hockey conference trophy,” Orr said. “We obviously lost some key pieces with Tanner Jago (from Brandon) graduating last year and a couple other seniors who had significant impacts, but at the same time we’re returning a lot of core guys from last year’s team and I’m just excited to see how far we can take this thing and hopefully win the school its first conference trophy.”

A defenceman, Orr helped the Falcons with solid blue line play and eight assists in 31 games. He has also succeeded in the classroom being named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team for the third straight year.

The finance major is also pursuing a minor in management. This summer he is interning in Boston at Natixis Investment Managers. He said it has been an interesting and worthwhile experience.

Throughout his hockey career, Orr has been strongly supported by his parents, Keith and Brenda Orr, and the rest of his family.

“I can’t thank my family enough. Since day one they’ve been my biggest supporters through good times and bad. They’ve always been there to remind me that hockey’s still a game, and one that should be enjoyed every day,” Orr said. “They’re also still my biggest fans and watch almost every game during the season, on top of making a few trips out east every year to watch a couple home games.”

Last winter when his parents came to watch him play, they brought along some family friends, and his sisters and brother-in-law came for the first time.
