Border Regional Library works to keep the newest titles available for Virden readers. The spring barbecue and book sale is a big fundraising event to help Mary Ann Lamy and staff do just that.
This year, Lamy reports over 35 volunteers helped with the barbecue, the work of unpacking and sorting books, then re-packing the unsold books. Gardwine trucking transports those books to the Rotary Club book sale in Brandon.
Donations of books were up this year, but unfortunately so was the number of boxes – 188 – remaining unsold.
Nearly $4,000 was raised over the two days - a couple hundred dollars short of last year’s total.
