Nellie Morris of Reston will turn 91-years-young on March 27th. Nellie shares her birthday with a very special landmark near Manor, Sk. Their family barn was built the same year as Nellie was born and has a very special spot in their family’s history.

C. Jaenen and sons built this barn in 1927 at a cost of $5,000. The head carpenter was Sam Morrill. The barn measures 86-feet long x 30-feet wide and is 35-feet high.

In 1935, Peter and Marie (Jaenen) Van Sprundel bought the farm from C. Jaenen. Then in 1965, their son, John Van Sprundel, and wife, Mary purchased the farm – and more recently in 2010, John and Mary’s son, Richard, has purchased the family farm. The barn still stands tall and is a beautiful piece of history on the farm. Richard Van Sprundel has built a much longer “birthing” barn where he can watch by cameras what is going on in his large herd. John, his Dad saw this before his passing in November after his 89th birthday. Happy 91st Birthday Nellie!
