Elkhorn to participate in ‘No Stone Left Alone’

Elkhorn's military over several conflicts will receive student recognition.

Elkhorn School will participate in their first No Stone Left Alone. Community spokesperson and Elkhorn Legion member Kevin Tutthill is taking part in this exercise. He  says the goal of this is to “honour the service and sacrifice of Canada’s military by educating and inspiring youth to place poppies on Veterans’ headstones.”

The public is invited to join this ceremony taking place on Friday, Nov. 3, beginning at 10:30 in Elkhorn Cemetery.

The Elkhorn Legion will be doing a special presentation there, honouring a local veteran. Two classrooms from Elkhorn School will attend to place poppies on the veterans’ headstones in the cemetery.

“We will also be going from the cemetery to St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Elkhorn, as there is ONE veteran's headstone in the flowerbed at the Church….” says Tutthill. This grave has been a mystery but he has researched the history through the soldier’s regimental number in the First World War.

Tutthill has discovered 82 pages about the soldier, but on Friday he will only provide a “snapshot of this fellow’s history.”

After the outdoor service, there will be hot chocolate served at the Legion Hall.
