Expect longer waits at Brandon’s emergency department

PMH has advice and schedules for people experiencing an emergency.

Brandon is experiencing slowdowns according to a bulletin just released by Prairie Mountain Health. They are advising only urgent and emergent cases come to Brandon at present.

Virden Medical Centre is one of the locations where PMH has committed to continuous emergency service, 24/7.

However, it’s important to know that some emergency departments at centres such as Hamiota, Shoal Lake, Deloraine and Melita do not have emergency services available at certain times. Nor do over a half-dozen other locations.

Check the website for schedule information.

BRHC Emergency Department notice from PMH advises that wait times experienced at Brandon Regional Health Centre’s Emergency Department are anticipated to be longer as staff undergo training involving a new electronic patient record (EPR) system.

However, critical care patients will continue to be seen first. If you have critical or emergent care needs, please continue to attend to the Emergency Department or call 911.

If you don’t believe your situation is urgent or emergent, other care options can be considered, including:

• Health Links/Info Santé 1-888-315-9257

• Your family care provider

• Walk-in service clinics

• Q-Doc- 1-888-736-2362 or https://qdoc.ca

Information on the established Emergency Department Triage levels is available on the PMH website here. PMH and Brandon Regional Health Centre appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this essential patient-centered EPR process.
