Flin Flon skiers earn four medals at Sask. Winter Games

Junior skiers from Flin Flon have returned home with a treasure trove of medals from the Saskatchewan Winter Games. The athletes won four medals in total, including two gold medals in cross country skiing.

Junior skiers from Flin Flon have returned home with a treasure trove of medals from the Saskatchewan Winter Games.

David Richard won a gold medal in the eight kilometre interval start senior classic race, finishing with a time of 27:33. Richard finished 26 seconds ahead of second-place Alex Wilson, racing for Team Lakeland.

Grady Bedford, also from Flin Flon, finished fourth in the same race, just seconds behind Saskatoon’s Fergus English.

On the girls’ side of the competition, Sarah Faktor earned silver in the eight kilometre interval start senior classic race, topping Regina’s Jenaya Morrison in a photo finish. Flin Flon’s Jessie Kozar finished ninth in the same race.

In the team events, Team North took off, finishing with a gold in the junior and senior boys’ relay events. Bedford and Richard were part of the three-member senior boys’ team, along with Sucker River’s Nicholas Charles.

The senior girls’ relay team, featuring Faktor, Kozar and Kassidy Bouvier-Lemaigre, also ended on the podium, finishing with a silver medal.

Team North finished eighth in the medal standings with 17 total medals, including five golds. Four of the team’s five gold medals were won in cross-country skiing, including the senior boys’ relay winning team and Richard.

Timothy Ratt from Sucker River also won a gold in the 250 metre junior boys’ free technique sprint, while La Ronge’s Roberto Bird earned a gold in the Special Olympic boys’ bowling competition.
