“How many of you use the breakfast program?” Principal Amy Schiltroth asked the children gathered in the Goulter School gym. And lots of hands went up.

Every school day, about 70 children out of the total student population of 165 come to the gym for a free breakfast.

Last week, three members of the Crazy Stitchers quilting group based in Virden visited the school and donated $1,000 towards the program. They raffle off quilts they make and donate the funds to various worthy causes.

Allison Price is an educational assistant at Goulter who also manages the breakfast program. She says it runs entirely on donations from the community, and she guesstimates this $1000 will cover about a month and a half of groceries.
