“This past weekend, two RCMP officers stationed in the Mosakahiken Cree Nation in Northern Manitoba came to the aid of a five-year-old child who was stuck inside a burning home. I want to commend these two officers for their bravery and selflessness in removing this young child from this home.
There is no doubt this was a traumatic event for everyone involved, but my hope is there is a happy ending and that all parties impacted will heal from this situation. I am pleased to know both the young child and the RCMP officers were able to survive the fire. We know all too well the danger imposed by fire and smoke inhalation in First Nations. I am also grateful to know two adults and two other children were able to exit the residence with only minor physical injuries.
I send my heartfelt appreciation to these two heroes for their efforts. Thank you for demonstrating your commitment to protecting this family and community.”
