Multi discipline emergency crews attend a tragic crash on Highway 1 near Carberry

Manitoba RCMP, respond to mass casualty collision. More details will follow a press conference to take place at 4:30.

At 3 p.m. this afternoon, Thursday June 15, Manitoba RCMP released a bulletin regarding a tragic collision on Highway 1. Manitoba RCMP has deployed all available resources to respond to a mass casualty collision on Highway 1 near Highway 5.

Since then, major news sources plus photographs from the public reveal this was a crash involving a semi-truck and a handi-transit van where numerous people are believed to have perished.

Shared Health, Prairie Mountain Health and Winnipeg Health Regions are involved. STARS Air ambulances from Winnipeg and Regina were dispatched.

RCMP units from across western Manitoba are on scene to assist along with other first responders. RCMP Major Crime Services are en route and will be taking carriage of the investigation.

The RCMP will be holding a press conference at 4:30 p.m., at D Division Headquarters to provide additional details. Representatives from the RCMP, Shared Health and the Province will be in attendance.
