“Nuthin’ But Trouble” has been happening at Oak Island Resort bringing music from the 1950’s on up to today’s classic rock such as Richie Valens, A/C D/C and ZZ Top, plus good old Country Music - all enjoyed by an energetic, dancing crowd.
On the evening of July 16 Mike Edgar and his band performed many of the memorable songs to a crowd of around 200 at the resort at Oak Lake. “Many years ago when I was a teenager, I was in a band and we lived on the air force base in Portage,” says Edgar. “That would be back in the early 80’s, when I was the bass player in the band.”
Edgar and his band played in the Portage area for a few years as a teenage band and when he moved to Brandon, he dropped the band and no longer followed through with any music. When Edgar went out one night to a Karaoke bar, someone asked him to sing a song, which lead to another song and the crowd was enjoying his vocal talents.
Edgar was out to the North Forty in Brandon on a separate occasion and was approached by someone there that encouraged him to start up a band. “The woman’s husband was a guitar player and I felt it would be a good idea,” replied Edgar.
Within about a week, Edgar had put together a band and called it “Nuthin’ But Trouble”. As they started their journey in 2005, they continue to perform seventeen years later at different events around Westman.
“We have had a few different band members that have come and gone over the years,” says Edgar. “When we first started we had hair and were a lot thinner, so there have been a few other changes over the years as well,” he chuckles.
Edgar says they have performed at fundraisers for the MS and Cancer Society’s and on August 27, they will be playing for the Carberry Homecoming. They could be busier in the summer time, but with some of them having cottages and seasonal sites, the band members take the opportunity to enjoy their weekends at the lake.
The “Nuthin’ But Trouble” band consists of: Mike Edgar – Lead Vocals; Terry Ross – Guitar/Keys/Vocals; Marc Provencher – Guitar/Vocals; Jack Meseyton – Bass/Vocals; Clayton Kozak – Drums/Vocals.
