Police attend seven accidents in two days of bad weather

During this week Westman RCMP received a total of 65 calls for service.  Of the 65, 21 were Traffic Related, two Uttering Threats Against a Person, three Well-Being/Mental Health Act, four False Alarms, two Abandoned Vehicles, and two Assault files.

Six files were to provide assistance to other Canadian agencies. There’s a broad scope of assistance to a variety of other agencies - for example: EMS, Fire, Child and Family Services, non-RCMP agencies like Manitoba First Nations Police, Brandon Police, etc. Tasks can include helping locate a missing person, aiding someone who requires medical help until EMS arrives or serving subpoenas.

On Feb. 4, RCMP received a report of a break and enter at a rental property in the RM of Sifton. There was video surveillance on the premises and RCMP continue to investigate.

On Feb. 9 Westman RCMP received a call that there was an abandoned truck located under the ice in a nearby lake, RCMP continue to investigate.

On Feb. 8th & 9th Westman RCMP responded to seven calls for service involving traffic collisions in the Westman area. Thankfully there was no major injuries. This time of year, storms and ice are to be anticipated, please plan travel accordingly.

On Feb. 10 Westman RCMP located a male walking in Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, he was wanted for several outstanding warrants. During his arrest police located suspected methamphetamine resulting in additional charges being laid.

During a routine traffic patrol being conducted in the RM of Sifton, RCMP observed a vehicle speeding, travelling at 121km/hr in a 100km/hr zone. RCMP conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle and the driver was issued a traffic offence notice which carries a fine of $325.

Westman RCMP would like to remind everyone as spring approaches be cautious during activities out on lakes and rivers as the ice is melting and becoming thinner; best practice is not to drive out onto frozen bodies of water in your vehicles.
