Librarian, Terri Vandenberghe of Reston welcomed everyone to Reston & District Library’s Grand Re-Opening. Approximatley, 52 people signed the guestbook on the afternoon of Thursday, June 14.

Board Member, Pat Dickson spoke on behalf of Board Chairperson, Laura Jean Campbell.

Terri began by thanking her staff, Nancy Elliott and Nancy Schiltroth. “They were just super before, during and after the reno. I am so lucky to have such great gals to work with,” said Vandenberghe.

Secondly, she thanked the Board Members: Laura Jean Campbell, Jane Pringle, Jean Dickson, Pat Dickson, Tom Dickson and Garnet Williamson. “They have been working towards this reno for quite a while. It’s nice to see the renovations complete. The board was so helpful through the entire process. You are to be commended for your perseverance.”

Thirdly and perhaps most importantly, Terri thanked the many volunteers from Reston and district for their help with unloading and loading the library one half at a time. This was a logistical challenge and they made the job so much easier.

Terri also thanked the trades people: JP. Williamson and Sandra Hamel for their excellent workmanship, professionalism and efficiency. Moore’s Electric, Howard for his advice and for the installation of the new ceiling fans. Hometown Hardware, who supplied the containers and doorknobs. Hometown Supply also lent their pallet jack. This enabled the library to fill pallets with tubs of books so that JP and Sandra were able to move the pallets for ease of painting.

They were also grateful to Jenkins Flooring for being so patient with them through all this past year’s changes. Art and his crew were very efficient and professional and their workmanship shows in the quality of the finished job.

Terri also thanked Kim MacKenzie from the Reston School for lending wheeled carts to use during the unloading and loading of the library. These carts saved a lot of lifting.

They were grateful to the RM of Pipestone. “The RM workers were instrumental in moving furniture in and out as we needed,” explained Vandenberghe. “When I called Christine, she made sure that we had workers when we needed them. I would also like to thank Michelle and all her staff at the RM. They supplied me with office space at the RM so I could continue to handle emails, paperwork, book cataloging and ordering etc. This made our transition back into the library so much smoother.”

Terri offered a special thank you to Myles Van Damn for his help with jobs around the library to help complete the renovation. His help was greatly appreciated.

Public Library Services in Brandon, Denise Weir and David Christianson, were so helpful with moving tips and suspending and starting up our Inter-Library loan system during and after the reno.

Last, but certainly not least, Terri thanked the patrons of Reston. “Because of you Reston has a wonderful library for all generations. Thank you for your membership. Reston & District Library is grateful to all past librarians, and past board members. Without the dedication of these people, Reston’s library would likely not be open today. These people worked or donated their time, so that Reston & District could provide a cultural place of knowledge, information, enjoyment that will hopefully be around for many, many more years to come. I apologize if I missed anyone.”

After congratulatory messages were heard, Terri Vandenberghe, Nancy Elliott and Nancy Schiltroth cut the cake. Iced tea and coffee were also served before a great afternoon of visiting, looking through scrapbooks and reminiscing. Winners of the door prizes were: Olive Elliott, Janelle Desrochers, Myles Van Damme and Pat Taylor.
