Reston Graduating Class of 2023 celebrate their accomplishments

The highest grade point average sets a student apart for a prestigious academic award.

Kyla Cristobal earned the Governor General’s award, graduating with 43.5 credits. She was Graduating Class President and Valedictorian at the Reston Grad ceremony on June 23. Throughout the year Kyla was on the student council and was part of the Ron & Clare Deacon Leadership Group, an annual leadership and mentoring program that involves students from Grades 9-12. A volleyball and badminton player, she is also a musician. As a saxophone player Kyla represented Reston School at Honour Band at Brandon University this year. She also plays and teaches piano.

Three of Fort La Bosse School Division’s high school students, one from each of Elkhorn, Reston and Virden, have once again received the Governor General’s Academic award. The medal was first minted in 1873 by Lord Dufferin, Canada’s third Governor General after Confederation, to encourage academic excellence across the nation. For 150 years this award is the most prestigious that students in Canadian schools can receive.
