The continuing adventures of Recumbent Ray

Canines, coons and cramps torment Oak Lake cyclist

In last week’s Empire-Advance, we introduced you to our two intrepid travelers, Recumbent Ray (Harris) and Laidback Leon (Dionne).

The friends are using recumbent tricyles to get from Victoria, BC to Beausejour, Man. – a journey of 2,500 kms.

Harris reports they left Victoria on schedule last Friday and, at last word, had made it as far east as Hope, BC and were bracing for the climb into the Rockies.

In his blog entry for Day 1, Harris writes, “The first thing that comes to mind is the pain. I started cramping. Leon? No problem. On Day 2, more pain. What do ya expect? Damn hills.”

That night they reached Surrey and another annoyance. Dogs in the camper next to them barked until the wee hours of the morning. After that ended, a couple of raccoons starting fighting “right by my head. Oh, that was fun,” opined Recumbent Ray.

On the fourth day of the journey, Harris was still battling pain. That night, the men took a break from tenting and stayed in a home with a soft bed and real food.

Could this be a turning point for the better? Or will the Rockies be hard on our heroes?

Stay tuned for more continuing adventures of Recumbent Ray and Laidback Leon.
