VCI brings The Addams Family to the Aud

They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky, they're altogether ooky, The Addams Family - (snap snap)
Theatre

People of a certain vintage will remember the original Addams Family television show from decades past with its catchy tune and iconic finger snapping. Recently revived as a Broadway Musical, the classic Addams characters are brought to life by the talented and dedicated students of VCI in a comedic and ghoulish tale that is sure to summon a new generation of Addams Family fans.

Director Michelle Chyzyk feels confident that this show is the perfect showcase for her talented VCI students. Masterful Dean Munchinsky is assisting Michelle with directing and creating imaginative set pieces.

This year’s cast, a blend of veterans and novices, is quite extraordinary - strong vocalists and very intelligent and coachable young performers.

The eclectic Addams clan are content to live by their unconventional values, secluded from society in their austere estate in New York City. That is, until Gomez and Morticia’s worst nightmare comes true! Their grown-up daughter Wednesday falls in love with a smart, young man from a respectable family. When Wednesday invites Lucas and his parents to their home for dinner, comical chaos ensues. In one fateful, uproarious night, secrets are revealed, trust is questioned, and the Addams family are confronted with the one thing they’ve managed to avoid for generations: change.

This show will feature elaborate costuming and make-up, and lots of stage special effects, as

genius Thomas Humphries and his technical team continue to push the boundaries of possibilities. The elaborate dance scenes have been shaped by Winnipeg choreographer Brenda Gorlick. There will be torture racks, a torture chair, fencing swords, and a monster or two.

Please don't worry - this entertaining show is appropriate for any age. As in last year’s Shrek, this is a very upbeat, hilarious modern musical written in 2009. For anyone who has enjoyed the elaborate community shows produced by Virden and District Chorale, we think you will find this production shockingly similar in quality.

The show runs Thursday to Saturday afternoon with tickets sold at Virden’s Flower Attic & Gifts.
