VCI Undergrad Awards recognize academic standing

135 awards are presented and a pie auction fundraiser caps off the evening of Sept. 21.

Virden Collegiate Institute (VCI) presented their 2022-2023 Undergrad Awards at a ceremony in the school gymnasium on Sept. 21. The program, emceed by Student Council President Kendall Charles and Abbi GIlliland included a total of 135 awards given to students with the highest marks in 15 subject areas offered at the school. 106 students received Honour Roll certificates for attaining an average of 80% or higher and those with the three highest averages took home a Top Academic Award. Special awards, including the VCI Staff Choice, Bear Spirit, J. Arthur Harvey, Kola School ACSL, Power Mechanics, Woodworking and High School Rodeo were also given out during the evening.    

With Alistair Hagan as auctioneer, the crowd had the opportunity to bid on some culinary delights at the pie auction fundraiser in support of the VCI Parent Council. Dollars raised are used for undergrad awards, graduate scholarships as well as the healthy snack program, which sees fresh fruit, granola bars, etc. distributed to students and staff at morning break each month.
