In blizzard conditions, a collision near Newdale claimed two lives.
On Friday, Feb. 18, at approximately 10:30 am, Yellowhead RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 16 west of Newdale, Manitoba in the RM of Yellowhead.
The initial investigation has determined that a pickup truck travelling west on Highway 16 crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with an eastbound semi-trailer.
Both vehicles caught fire and were fully engulfed in flames. The fire department attended and extinguished the fire.
The two occupants of the pickup were a 45-year-old male from Tofield, Alberta and a 60-year-old male from Elora, Ontario. Both were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The 53-year-old male driver of the semi-trailer, from Melfort, Saskatchewan, received minor physical injuries and was treated on scene.
Blizzard conditions are believed to be a factor in the collision.
Yellowhead RCMP, along with a RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
