A Noise Downstairsby Linwood Barclay: Paul Davis, a college professor, is fairly content with his normal life. That changes the night he spots a colleague, Kenneth, driving along a deserted road in a very suspicious manner after 11 pm. The driver appears to be looking for something and turns into an industrial park with a long row of businesses. He drives up to a dumpster, gets out and throws a heavy package into it. Meanwhile Paul has kept himself and his vehicle out of sight. Following again discretely, Paul is intrigued and when the vehicle stops again, Paul drives up and identifies himself. Too late, he notices clear plastic sheeting in the back of the vehicle.

Maze Master by Kathleen O’Neal Gear: A thriller. Anna, a former student of the brilliant geneticist Hakari who has disappeared, is recruited to locate him. It is vital that he is found because a retrovirus seems to be waking up and he was the one who predicted this could happen.

The Room on Rue Amelie by Kristin Harmel: Set against the drama of WWII in Paris, fate brings three people together who must summon the courage and fight to survive. Meanwhile Aubert’s motto was “Always hide in plain sight. It’s the last place the Nazis look.”

A Measure of Darkness by Jonathan Kellerman and Jesse Kellerman: A thriller. A wild party in an East Bay neighbourhood ignites an argument that spills into the street. Chaos results and Deputy Coroner Clay Edison gets very busy. He has just solved a decades old crime and redeemed an innocent man.

Adult fiction:

So Much Life Left Over by Louis De Bernieres: A group of childhood friends have been changed by the First World War. At the start of the 1920s, some have scattered to Ceylon, India, France and Germany, and some back to Britain. The story follows the friends over the decades as they live their lives and their paths continue to cross.

Regeneration by Pat Barker: The first book in the Regeneration trilogy.
