Dear Editor,

The question… “Do We Need Lights” was headlined with a picture showing two semis in the ditch at the intersection of the TransCanada and Hwy 83. (Aug. 25, 2017) Lights are not the complete answer.

Lights are not the complete answer. The traffic lights at the intersection of the TransCanada and the Yellow Head (#16) just west of Portage La Prairie did not prevent several fatalities and injuries during the past several weeks.

One very expensive remedy is overhead routing, as on the 401 Hwy from Windsor to Toronto and beyond, heading east.

The most logical, and much less expensive remedy is simply this … Drivers attitude  and respect. Very Important!

Remember …this is the TransCanada Hwy and traffic is speeding at 100/110  km per hour -  PLUS.

So when especially entering, exiting  and even travelling on the TransCanada, take the time to focus on what's coming and taking place, especially at intersections. Those extra seconds /minutes are always available to use and make sound judgements to avoid, or becoming involved in an accident.

Safe Travelling is Everyone’s’ Responsibility.
