“Talk is Cheap”

Re: Throne speech rich with unprovable pledges, Winnipeg Free Press, Nov. 21.

I agree with Dan Lett. The throne speech was a performance of promises and visions, with emphasis on being better for all Manitoba, plus taking shots at the previous administration, but disregarding our most vital and precious resource: water.

"These are challenging times calling for vision, courage and action," said Pallister. "It is not easy. The previous government lacked that courage. It requires changes and change can be unsettling. But for too long, Manitoba has been last among provinces in most social services categories. Manitobans deserve better."

However, the previous NDP government had the moral fibre and integrity to take the initiative and put Lake Winnipeg and Manitoba water concerns into the forefront. They had come to the realization that water and environment must be protected at all costs for the people and future generations.

Unfortunately, the Red Tape Reduction Act has scuttled the Save Lake Winnipeg legislation, leaving rural Manitobans open to the onslaught of more hog factories and manure. Economy trumps wisdom!

Yes, Manitobans do deserve better.
