The Tourist Centre is filled with new and interesting art pieces. From sculptures to canvases covered in music sheets and book pages, this artist spotlight has a lot of variety to offer. There are two artists being showcased, Lesley J. Moffit and Bev Karnes, each with their own interesting style.

Moffit is from Pender Island, BC. She met the ladies of the Fibre Art Group and they inspired her to step out of her comfort zone. Moffit loves to paint on fabric; even though she does other mediums, she always likes to go back to her favourite. Many of her pieces are fabric pieces and use all sorts of fabric and styles of painting. Moffit currently lives at Oak Lake beach with her husband Scott and her dog Mikie. Moffit said that both Oak Island Resort and Pender Island give her lots of inspiration and pleasure.

Bev Karnes is a selftaught artist who has explored many mediums and brush strokes of the art scene. Little did Karnes know that painting animals on rocks would lead to a great passion for art. These rocks lead Karnes to establish “Karnes & Kompany” as she hit the craft show circuit scene. She started in acrylics, then ventured into oils, dabbled in water colour, only to end up working with pastels and mixed media. Karnes mostly does pastel portraits, but there are interesting pieces made with music sheets put onto a canvas and buttons placed as well, to make an image. There are also little vases made from gourds with designs and sceneries burned into them.
