Great Plains Concert

Sunday evening,  June 4, at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, country gospel duo, Great Plains, amazed audience with heartfelt music. Darrel Delaronde is originally a Saskatchewan boy, and Saskia Delaronde grew up in Holland. They currently live in Maymont, SK.

The couple’s harmonized voices sang heart-warming, original songs of country living. Great Plains also performed songs by Jillian Welsh, Johnny Cash, and dedicated Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” to that great songwriter.

The Virden audience was the first to hear “The Auctioneer” a never before performed song, written by Great Plains. The song is about when there is no one left to take over a family farm and the farm has to be auctioned off.

Saskia entertained spectators with a 38 verse “Swiss Yodel”, and a French love song, “Plasir d’amour” which her grandmother taught her.

All attending left the concert with a smile on their face, love in their heart, and fond country memories flooding their mind. The band is currently on tour and heading back west into Saskatchewan for show dates in June.
