Coming off a cruise in Costa Rica, the duo abruptly adjusted from a +30 sunshine oasis, to our -30 authentic Canadian winter.

The climate change, however extreme, didn’t slow down the duo from another engaging performance at Virden’s Aud Theatre.

Opening with an array of Hollywood favorites the duo brought the soundtracks to life with their unique and creative arrangements.

Roy Tan shared of his youth as he grew up in the “best years of Disney”. Tan shared how while watching movies like Aladdin and The Lion King that he was filled with wonder. Tan embarked on a task of trying to replicate that same wonder by composing a piece in similar style.

As Tan began playing his tribute to the golden years of Disney, the audience was brought back to their childhood as the music inspired a youthful wonder and playful state.

Known for their audience engagement, the Duo also took thoughts and ideas from the audience in order to create an improvised song.

Dozens of ideas were shouted from those in attendance. The themes chosen by Roy and Rosemary were: -45, blizzard, sunrise, northern lights and stars.

The duo then collaborated and began playing a beautiful duet on piano and violin.

The impromptu piece took us through the sunrise of a cold -45 winter day. Slowly the music intensified as we were brought through the blizzard, finishing with a breathtaking finish of beautiful melodies representing the northern lights and stars.

Another talent those in attendance Saturday night saw from Tan was his ability to arrange and compose music.

Joining the duo were Oak Lake Choirs: The Heard and Noteable Women who were directed by Karyn Penner and performed multiple pieces by Tan.

After seeing Roy & Rosemary multiple times here in Virden Penner said she, “knew this was an opportunity we [the choirs] should not pass up!”
“It was very much an honour, not to mention, inspiring, to be invited to perform with Roy and Rosemary last Saturday. They were both very easy and flexible to work with. Their musicality was contagious as it flowed around the stage, surrounding and uplifting our voices” said Penner.

As per usual, the Arts Mosaic concert series brought in a large crowd to support two very talented artists.
