VJH students partake in Speech Arts

Virden Junior High students attended Speech Arts, part of the Virden Music and Arts Festival, at the Aud Theatre, on Apr. 12. Grade 6 students performed a play called “The Fleeby’s Vacation” in the Drama, Created Script for Grades 4-6.

Virden Junior High students attended Speech Arts, part of the Virden Music and Arts Festival, at the Aud Theatre, on Apr. 12. Grade 6 students performed a play called “The Fleeby’s Vacation” in the Drama, Created Script for Grades 4-6.

Students not only performed the play, but wrote it, and did the sets as well. The comedic and lively play was enjoyed by a captivated audience. Bright and colourful costumes added to the performance.

Adjudicating the three days of Speech Arts, from Apr. 10to Apr. 12 was Gail Singer, who holds a B.A. from McGill University, a M.A. from University of Pittsburgh, and a B.Ed. from University of Manitoba.

Singer has adjudicated music and speech arts at approximately 70 festivals in Manitoba and Ontario. She recently retired as Principal of Earl Grey School in Winnipeg. Singer taught French and English before that. In addition, she received her Associate of the Royal Conservatory (ARCT) for Voice Performance.
