Outdoor game at Lake Bemidji

The Southwest Cougars bantam AAA boys hockey team has a definite local flair this season. The regional team features Virden products Ty Plaisier, Tyson Andrew, Jack Smith, and affiliated player Ryan Lewis.

Virden’s Kennedy Charles is headed to Red Deer. The standout speed skater has been selected to compete in the Canada Winter Games. The prestigious event runs Feb. 15-March 3 in Red Deer, Alberta.

Before the clock struck on the Jan. 10 trade deadline, the Oil Capitals made a trio of moves to help the team now and in the future.

The Virden Oil Capitals added to their blue line by the Manitoba Junior Hockey League deadline yesterday Jan. 10. The club has reportedly acquired 19-year-old Jacob Evans from the Dauphin Kings.
