Elkhorn’s Layne Toder was kind of in disbelief when he learned he was drafted by the Western Hockey League’s Calgary Hitmen.

For nine years, Oilers were disbanded. They had no home diamond to play on after changes were made in 2006, to Virden’s sports field to accommodate the new recreation facility.

The Virden Oilers baseball season is right around the corner and after an eight-year hiatus, the boys of summer will be back on the field, carrying on the strong baseball tradition this town has earned over the years.

Over 300 people joined the Virden Oil Capitals for their annual Year-End Awards Banquet on March 5, in Sunrise Credit Union banquet hall. The event was hosted by FoxTail Hauling.
