The 2015 Provincial Senior AA Baseball Championships begin today in Hamiota and Oak River as eight teams vy for the coveted title.

An opportunity arose for communities to apply for federal funding towards projects related to Canada’s 150th birthday celebration in 2017. The project the Town of Virden submitted met the qualifications.

Thirty-two golfers took part on a hot Saturday, July 25. The tournament play was 9 holes Best Score, 9 holes Best Ball and 9 holes Alternate Shot. A delicious meal was served by the Clubhouse staff following the golf.

The seventh annual Oilmen’s Golf Tournament proved to be a great success, with 104 golfers showing their support. The money raised is donated to the golf course to use for improvements.

A very successful weekend was held July 17 to July 19 when the Miniota Community Centre hosted their 24th Annual Shirtsleeve Classic.

Heidi Smith’s basketball journey is taking her east. The Oak Lake product is transferring from the University of Saskatchewan to Nipissing University in North Bay, ON.
