It has been an exciting spring for Elkhorn’s Parker Johnson. Last Sunday he was drafted with the fifth pick of the second round of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League Draft by the Swan Valley Stampeders.

On Friday August 21, 19-year-old Dylan Cusmano, former Dryden Ice Dog from the SIJHL league, has been picked up by the Virden Oil Capitals.

Western Canada Sum mer Games Virden’s Carmen Ross helped a young Team Manitoba compete against many of the country’s top volleyball players at the 2015 Western Canada Games recently.

The Provincial Senior AA Baseball Championships held in Hamiota for the third straight year, were another outstanding success.

The countdown is on for the Westman Wildcats, female AAA midget team based out of Hartney, Manitoba, as there is 14 days until the annual fall tryout. The Wildcats finished their 2014-2015 campaign with a 37-24-6 record and 67 games on the season.

On August 6, the Virden Oil Capitals were proud to announce the signing of Estevan, SK product Kyle Salaway, for the 2015-2016 season.

Coming off of a 12-28-4 record in the 2014-2015 season and nine wins out of the playoffs, the Southwest Cougars of the Manitoba AAA Midget league, based out of Souris, are now less than five weeks away from the 2015-2016 season.

This summer, I was lucky to be able to attend the Royal Canadian Legion’s Athletic Camp at the International Peace Gardens and it proved to be a very interesting and informative experience.

Sisters Mackenzie and Brooklyn Roach’s softball season started in the gym of Virden Collegiate in March and took them to the U18 Western Canadian Fastball Championships in Lloydminster this past week-end.

On August 3-7, head instructor of Jerrard Sport Hockey Camp, Paul Jerrard made his third debut at Tundra Oil and Gas Place.
