While still grappling with the aftermath of the Humboldt Broncos tragedy, the Virden Oil Capitals are back competing for a championship.

Special ceremony planned for tonight's pre-game

The tragedy of the Humboldt Broncos’ bus crash is resonating in Virden and around the world. On Friday, the team’s bus and a semi-truck collided, claiming the lives of 15 people.

Virden Velocity had three teams this year: A Beginner II team with 13 skaters ages 5-11; an Elementary team with 12 skaters ages 7-12; and an Adult II team. The youth teams are coached by Tricia Hayward.

Kola’s Dustin Siemens loves the challenge of being a running back for the Westman Wolverines. “The thing I enjoy most is running all over a defence - making it feel like you can’t be stopped,” he said.
