Baseball history in Elkhorn

From 1959 to 1964, the community of Elkhorn had one of the hottest baseball teams in the Westman area. The team was known as the “Elkhorn Blue Sox”, and in 2007 they were inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame.

The Virden Oilers have completed another regular season; this one is definitely one for the books. The regular season, “went very well.” Player- manager Des Koop explained. The team went an impressive 9-4 and won the North Division Pennant.

Virden’s product, Landon Fillion, recently won the Canadian National Arm Wrestling Championship title in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan with his right arm and received fourth place with his left arm. Fillion has been arm wrestling for about 12 years now.

Virden driver to compete in PASCAR

At least one driver from Virden is set to drive in a race in Souris on Sunday. PASCAR brought racing back to the Souris Motor Speedway in 2014. Virden Mayor, Jeff McConnell decided to take up a challenge from Cam Clark, CKLQ Station Manager.
